THINK TANK

THINK TANK

Tim Fawcett&

Hywel Livingstone

30 August - 28 September

THINK THANK explores the meeting of two artists who skilfully combine the use of formal approaches without ever restricting their freedom of expression.

Tim Fawcett’s and Hywel Livingstone’s artistic impulses equal the methodical application of skills, tones, and shapes.

This allows the viewer to contemplate the possible existence of a golden ratio in art. Whether it is a pursuit or a coincidence is a secondary matter. Artists can operate under the same principles as spiral galaxies - we are free to imagine that.

The contrast between Livingstone’s and Fawcett’s work methods is apparent - the driving force might be similar, but the energy of the work differs, much like different types of vibrations. One needs to force the vibrations and bend the material to shape it; the other has to forget his knowledge and trust the free vibrations to find a way to unsee all the known shapes and confront the banality of what an object may represent
