ODE TO ANOTHER

Ode to Another brings together new works in dialogue from Lillias August (RI) and Jonathan Clarke. This unique exhibitions explores a tension between contrasting works. By highlighting such individual approaches, a surprisingly unity is created due to their shared reverence for the natural world.

Lillias August's watercolours ingeniously examine everyday objects revealing the warmth of her touch in the absence of human presence. Paintbrushes, keys and vegetables arranged in compositions that convey a powerful message.Lillias challeneges the viewer to step outside their comfort zone to consider the significance of the objects and what they touch and leave behind.

Jonathan Clarke creates unique architectural sculptures, semi-abstract, semi-figurative works which carry an emotional resonance. Jonathan draws inspiration from various sources; social, spiritual and mythological subject matter. His sculpture, initially created in polystyrene, then sand cast in aluminium, invite the viewer to contemplate the deeper meaning of life.

This is an exhibition interested in the power of art to provoke thought and emotion. By drawing connections between opposing artworks, we invite the viewer to reflect on their own relationship with the world and encourage the cultivation of connection, despite exterior differences.
