Sigurdur Olafsson is a contemporary artist best known for his abstract paintings created with unconventional tools. Whilst abstract in conception, his art is often inspired by the colours, rhythms, and seasons of the Icelandic landscape and all that it beholds from old towns to its harsh winter weather. 

Interested in the transcendent potential of painting, Olafsson employs the medium to explore the physical properties of paint and innovative possibilities in its use. His process is a paradox; it reconciles artistry with randomness, discipline with chance. Characterised by austere compositions built on layers of hidden complexity, Olafsson’s paintings elegantly negotiate the boundary between order and chaos, the concrete and the metaphysical. His work has been exhibited in Iceland, the United Kingdom, Sweden and the United States.
